I've had sinus problems since November: I've had the Sinus problem for almost 2 months.I've been on:1) Zpack, RhinoCort, Allegra-D2) Prednisone and Allegra-D3) Augmentin, Allegra-D, and Rhinocortand finally currently taking Zyrtec-D, Mucinex (I added this) Also been doing Sinus Rinses.I have allergy tests coming up in a week or so and if I'm not better, my doctor is referring me to and ENT, which happens to be an Osteopathic Doctor.

An Osteopath is a medical doctor that goes to a college of Osteopathic medicine. They treat the WHOLE person, not just the symptom. They are able to perform manipulations like those done by Chiropractors. I absolutely prefer an Osteopath because they tend to actually listen to & hear what their patients are saying.

They make good doctors no matter what the practice. They are more common in the mid-west than the east coast. I have one now in Ohio as my Internist. Great doctor. It still comes down to whether you like the doctor and feel that you are getting the type of care you need. Below is a little bit of information on DOs.Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine, or D.O.s, apply the philosophy of treating the whole person (a holistic approach) to the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness, disease and injury using conventional medical practice such as drugs and surgery, along with manual therapy (Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine or OMM).As with Doctors of Medicine (M.D.s), D.O.s educated in the United States are fully licensed physicians and surgeons who practice the full scope of medicine. Most D.O.s graduating outside the U.S. are not medically trained practitioners. Currently, there are 24 accredited D.O.-granting U.S. osteopathic medical schools[2] and 125 accredited M.D.-granting U.S. medical schools.[3]

D.O's are generally very good doctors. They are more about treating the person as a "whole" and not just treating their symptoms. They have a slightly different philosophy about medicine...and again..very good docs...Good Luck!

Interesting. An osteopath works with bone and muscle, focusing on restoring structural integrity. Perhaps your referring doctor thinks it might be something in the skeletal system?
