how long it lasts? I've had it for about 7 months now and I'm really sick of it. I can't even barely scratch my arm without a huge, swollen red welt appearing and lasting for several minutes.I had Scabies about 7 months ago and was prescribed Permetherin for it...it's a topical cream that kills the mites. It worked on the Scabies, but ever since then, I've had horrible Dermotographism.I'm taking Atarax (Hydroxyzine) and it works for about 2 days, then it starts up again. This is driving me crazy...any advice on what to do about it?Can Scabies actually cause Dermotographism?

Yup, I have it. It's just a form of hives, not from Scabies. It's basically allergies. I take an over the counter antihistamine and that seems to help.I've also found that if I keep scratching that one area, running it under cold water helps.I was a bit shook up when my doctor told me what it was, but she has a great sense of humor, telling me about being able to "write" on my skin...we ended up laughing at all the ideas that came from that.I'm not sure that it ever goes away. I remember having it for years and years before I actually asked a doctor. I live in an area where my allergies are much worse that ever before, so it seems to be more of an issue now.Don't worry on it too much, it's not harmful, no one can catch it, it just looks kind of bad from time to time. Take antihistamines, they really do help!Best of luck!

Atarax and antihistamines have the unwanted side effect of drowsiness. All of these type of things are so specific to the individual, for one it may be mildly annoying, for another it may be intense and drive them wild. My sympathies of course...This might be a case for halting all contact with any chemicals whatsoever and your skin, use water only and one one hypoallergenic cleanser. Also (assuming you have gotten all of the mites out from your environment ie:bedding, clothes, carpets, linens...very important) double rinse all of your laundry and use All Clear or some other hypoallergenic clothes detergent...If I were you, and I'm not so you may not be a fanatic like me if something like this occurs I dedicate myself to the erradication of it from my life....stopping at nothing, refusing to accept that it will become part of my life. I would go to the health food store near you and see if they have anything for cleansing your system which of course they will and do a good cleansing system, Ibecause a build up of toxins in the system can exacerbate or even cause some of these skin problems because the skin is "the body's biggest organ" and it's task besides protection is elimination of waste and temperature control.I would go so far as to cleanse my liver and drink lots of water every day and maybe even switch to a macrobiotic diet or something,,, I would immediately cease any consumption of junk food. Get plenty of exercise and fresh air. Try to eliminate foods that are genetically egineered and grown with chemicals, go organic, tighten up any loose ends with you and God for your spiritual ,and psycho-social health, review your emotional health : do the old personal inventory to rule out issues that are not dealt with that show up in physical manifestations of illness... did you know that 80% of illness is stress related?A good prayer time and /or a good run release T-lymphocytes into the system (these are known as the feel good messengers of the endocrin system)They are known to help the body resist disease and illness....WOW this whole distressing thing could be your beginning of a much richer life....unless you already do all of the above and know everything I shared with you already and have exhausted all avenues of healing... but seriously there's just got to be some other way of dealing with it than putting your receptors to sleep over it temporarily....Give it all a try...YOU ARE WORTH IT:)
