I was on Zithromax ( Z Pak ) antibiotics for 5 days - sinus problems - head pressure - ear pain - throat pain near adams apple - problems resolved somewhat. Went back to doctor after being on Z Pak - he prescribed Biaxin XL for 10 days - I have not started yet not sure if it is a bacteria infection ?This problem started January 1st - Why did the Z Pak do the job - Doctor thought I needed Antibiotic longer - These 2 drugs are in the same family ? My throat feels irritated today - head pressure - upper teeth feel sensitive - I feel not so good ?

Respectively all antibiotics are in the same family. Some are Beta-lactamase inhibitors and others inhibit the bacteria's DNA from unraveling. If the Beta-lactam antibiotics didn't work, that means the bacteria is either resistant to it or doesn't use the lactamase enzyme the antibiotic targets. Find out exactly what your antibiotic do, they may help with your questions. If you have a sore throat from a strep. infection, stay away from fatty foods such as burgers, heavy creams or dairy products. Drink acidic liquids-orange juice, cranberry juice, etc. . Good luck. P.S. taking antibiotic for an infection are not always a good thing. They can cause other infections called opportunistic infections

Take the biaxin XL. Your not suppost to stop antibiotic use when your on a daily regimen. If it is a bacterial infection the antibiotic is going to kill the weaker bacteria in your body. There might have been a chance the bacteria was fully wiped out and some of the more resistant bacteria is left in your body resulting in your current symptons. The bacteria already built up an immunity and evolved into resistant Z-pak most likey, so your doctor gave you a new biaxin XL. Please try and take the biaxin XL and talk to your pharmacist or physician.
