No. they have completely different spectrum of antimicrobial activity.Ciprofloxacin has activity only against gram-negative rods, with really no useful activity against gram positives (other than anthrax).Amoxicilllin is most useful against streptocci. In years gone by it was useful against a limited number of gram negative rods like E. coli, klebsiella, and proteus, but that activity has essentially been lost now. So nowadays amoxicillin is useful only against strep, moraxella, and hemophilus -- defining it as a reasonable choice for ear and sinus infections, but not much else. There are roughly 90 licensed antibiotics in the USA - and each has it's small list of things that it is good for, and many things that it is no good for. It's good to appreciate that all antibiotics are not the same - that's why they train infectious disease specialists (:-)

There is an alert on Cipro. It can cause the tendons to rupture in some people. Cipro is very powerful and should only be used on things like Anthrax or if your body is immune to all other antibiotics. There are other very good antibiotics out there if you have issues with Amoxicillin (which is a very good choice for most infections)

Cipro is very strong - But depending how bad an infection is, it may be necessary to take. It is also know to cause major diahrea is some people while it is being taken. Eating yougurt twice a day will help counter act that side effect.
