Don't listen to the uninformed answer above. Antibiotics act on structures not present in Eukaryotic cells. The antibiotics given to a dog to fight a staph infection are the same ones that would be given to a human. Same goes for fish, which are eukaryotes as well. The only problems arise if you're allergic to the antibiotic in question, and when you have to account for differences in dosing. But the fact is that if it were a life or death situation, a proper dose of any effective antibiotic could, nay should, be taken.

Those are usually not sterile, are compounded strangely and generally wouldn't be safe to use in a person.If you're talking say, a bottle of vet-grade ciprofloxican meant to be used on horses, then if the dose were adjusted you could use it, it's the same chemical after all. That's controlled by prescription of course, not just something you can get off the shelf at a pet store.That stuff you get off the shelf at PetCo is completely and totally unsafe for use in people.

Yeah, as the above author indicated, these antibiotics are from different classes but work the same way on humans and other animals. The dose will determine how effective something is. Cipro by any other name is Cipro, you'll just need to adjust the dose for someone of a given mass. The active ingredients in these agents are the same.

Glucosamine was used to treat horses and got a very fast release to be used with humans because lots of people had been secretly taking it for a long time with no bad effects.

No, they're species group specific. Your cells are different to that of a fish used to being submerged under water. You could probably use a drug meant for another mammal but i would never suggest you try use a drug intended for fish.
