I have spent most of my pregnancy, well the past four weeks, in and out of the hospital. I have had severe pain in the right abdominal, side, and lower back sections that most doctors said was round ligament pain. After testing blood and urine, which had shown large amounts of blood in the urine and a really high blood cell count, I knew it wasn't ligament pain. I went to get a second opinion. About two weeks ago, my urine was sent off for another culture. This time it grew the bacteria E. Coli. I was also diagnosed with gestational hydronephroisis which is where fluid is pushed up back into the kidney. I was put on macrobid for 14 days which made me sicker than a dog. I had my urine and blood retested which grew more E. Coli and my white blood cell count was still elevated. What I don't understand is why haven't they admitted me and kept me in the hospital? I have been in the hospital six times in the past four weeks. They gave me pain pills, but I have so many symptoms that keep me sick and give me a loss of appetite. How serious is E. Coli when it is in the urinary track? Anyone with information experiencing the same thing or getting over the same thing would be great. I am 20 weeks pregnant by the way. Thanks bunches! <3

Hey huni,I am very sorry you are feeling so rough.E coli UTI's are actually really common, You just need some anti-biotics to fight the infection.If you are saying you have had ABX and still have the infection then you should have been given something stronger, or possibly in hospital for IV anti-biotics.Just keep an eye on your temperature, and if you start to feel really warm, check your pulse - if your pulse is fast, along with a temp. (You may also feel dizzy and have some joint pains) then call the hospital you plan to deliver at. The labour ward is open 24 hours, if it's after 8pm, they will see you, if it's during the day, they will have a maternity assesment suite to book you in for.As long as you are not severely poorly from the infection you don't need to stay in hospital.However they do need to give you something stronger to get rid of the infection - Infections during pregnancy can induce labour. This is how I lost my little girl at 19 weeks. Just keep your eye out and report ANYTHING you are unhappy with.Go back if you feel you need to be seen again - they will not refuse to see you honest.Good luck xxx

I really dont know how serious it is...but I know I had it with this pregnancy. I have had several utis this pregnancy and I saw it in my charts. Nothing that a little antibiotics didn't fix though.

I'm not sure but e-coli is a natural bacteria found in the gut, urine could possible contain it due to it moving from your back to your front before you took your urine sample??.Elevated white blood cell count means you have an infection obviously, blood in the urine is common as well.I myself am awaiting a urine culture result as during a dipstick test at the doctors i had a high level of blood in my urine.Im sorry i couldn't be of more help, im in a similar situation myself, i am also suffering side and lower back pain, and i was told this was probably due to a kidney infection.i Hope it all works out for you! xx
