Hi Thomas,Prozac & Zoloft are the prototypical SSRIs. They have been in use for some time now and they do have quite a bit of side-effects. Again, it depends on the individual.As for Paxil, it too is one of the older SSRIs & one of the biggest cons is that it has a very short duration, so if you forgot to take a dose, the withdrawals can set in very quickly, and the withdrawals with Paxil are very nasty.The other important issue is that Paxil, Zoloft and Prozac are metabolized by an enzyme in the liver called CYP 2D6. But they also inhibit this enzyme. CYP 2D6 is responsible for metabolizing a number of drugs (eg. Codeine, Tramadol, Risperdal etc.). So if you take any of these drugs whilst taking Paxil, Prozac, Zoloft, you will not get any effects from them. Paxil and Prozac are strong inhibitors whereas Zoloft is only a weak inhibitor. paxil often gives HORRIBLE headaches. i went on it before and was homicidal from the headaches it caused.

I really hated Paxil when I was on it. It gave me horrible tremor and made me sick to my stomach. I was on it for 4 years before I quit cold turkey because I couldn't take it anymore. Now I'm on Celexa and I hardly have any side effects. It's great.
