for about 3 weeks ive been on toprol xl 50mg cause of extra heart beats..it didnt really help so my dr is starting me on atenolol 100mg im suppose to take 1 and half the first few days then go for the 2nd pill. im starting this on sunday my question is do i just stop the toprol and start on this like take the toprol up until sat then sun i wake up and take the atenolol or do i have to be weened of the toprol first then take the atenolol im asking here cause i forgot to ask my dr when i saw him and its on my mind im going to talk to him this weekend but would like to here others thoughts im not going to do just what you say just getting opinions i am still going to talk to my dr before hand im a 21 male no other conditions except for this

I take toprol for the same reason. I don't know why he is prescribing atenolol... as both medicines are Beta Blockers.If your palpatations are real bad, like mine, toprol only helped a little... then my doctor put me on Flecinide. Worked like a dream. But I also continue to take toprol.Stopping toprol may give you jitters or make your blood pressure go up. Then again combining it with Atenolol may have the opposite effect. Just call your doctor.

You need to get these instructions from a doctor not Answers. If you take our advice (aside from this one) you are letting people you do not know from places you do not know mess with your heart!

I think you can stop the Toprol and start the Atenelol without any formal weaning, as you call it. I am a heart and blood pressure patient myself and I have gone through a number of anti hypertensive medicines and beta blockers without weaning.I am glad though that you plan to ask your doctor.
